Submission for the ~intoxik8 Blank Canvas Competition April, 2003.
It is ironic that whomever first formed the phrase 'think outside the box' assumed that such a container existed to begin with. Equally parallel and overused mottos such as 'imagine the impossible' and 'break the rules' have so dominated the stagnant and corporate dogma of our society, that these formerly inspirational phrases have been inextricably associated with photographs of sunsets, mounted to fake gold frames, and hung from dreary office walls worldwide. The discovery process of creativity is not neccessarily just about breaking the rules - or even redefining them - but continually questioning the assumption that these rules existed in the first place. So whenever we advise someone to "think outside the box", we do ourselves a great disservice, for there never was a box.

Dear God !!!!! This must have taken you awhile to put together, very nice work. And your words just completed the image totally, and very well put I might add. I need to heed those words more often and relize to myself that there is no box only the barriers I create for myself.
Thank you for the inspiration.

i absolutely love this...i love the way the textured tree-like guys are holding up compositions that can stand on their own and the balance between the butterflies and the rubix cubes keeps me going back and forth over and over again
it looks great
